Our Roadmap – for the Future
At Måsøval, since 1973, we have been driven by a vision to manage ocean resources responsibly and sustainably. Through innovation, local anchoring, and global standards, we aim to set a new benchmark for sustainability in the aquaculture industry.
As a responsible producer of one of the world’s most resource-efficient protein sources – salmon – we work every day to reduce our environmental footprint and ensure healthy growth for future generations.
Our Commitment to Sustainable Development
We understand that sustainability requires both action and transparency. Therefore, we have begun implementing the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and conducted thorough double materiality assessments to establish a robust framework to support our sustainability reporting. This work demonstrates our commitment to transparency and responsible business practices, and paves the way for a comprehensive and credible overview of our sustainability efforts in the years to come.
Where Are We in the Process?
- 2023: We conducted a double materiality analysis to map how sustainability issues affect our business (financial materiality), and how we affect the environment and society (impact materiality). This analysis identified 25 material sustainability topics that are critical to our operations. This forms the basis for our future reporting.
- 2024: We are working to complete the transition to the ESRS standard and are developing a more comprehensive sustainability report that meets the requirements of CSRD. Our first goal is to finalize a greenhouse gas inventory following the GHG Protocol.
- 2025: The complete sustainability report covering environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects will be launched.
- Going forward: Our ambition is to establish ourselves as a leading player in sustainability reporting in the aquaculture industry, with measurable indicators and concrete results.
Our Priority Sustainability Goals:
- Climate-friendly food production: Reduction of carbon footprint through electrification of facilities and optimization of production methods.
- Fish health and welfare: Implementation of advanced vaccination and feed strategies to reduce disease and improve fish welfare.
- Local communities and value creation: Support for local communities through employment, sponsorship of local projects, and collaboration with actors throughout the value chain.
Responsible Management of Ocean Resources
At Måsøval, we see ourselves as stewards of natural resources, and our goal is to leave a minimal footprint for future generations. This involves continuous investments in technology and knowledge, such as new delousing methods, improved feed strategies, and measures to reduce mortality.
Transparency and Reporting
We report our progress in sustainability annually, focusing on:
- ESG measures: Measurement of environmental impact, social responsibility, and governance. With the transition to the ESRS standard, our next sustainability report will become a central tool for communicating our efforts and progress towards a more sustainable future.
- Compliance with the Transparency Act: Ensuring respect for human rights throughout our value chain.
We are convinced that the food production of the future must be in harmony with nature. Through our commitment to transparency, innovation, and sustainability, we aim to inspire both the aquaculture industry and society to think bigger – and greener.
