Njord Kya christened at Siholmen – strengthens wellboat capacity at Måsøval

Community celebration at the quayside

On Friday, March 28, the wellboat Njord Kya was formally christened at Siholmen in Sistranda, Frøya, with Marion MÃ¥søval – one of MÃ¥søval’s pioneers – as the proud godmother. Many people gathered to participate in the ceremony, which was followed by an open boat event and a celebratory dinner in the true MÃ¥søval spirit.

A short film from the day can be found at the bottom of the article.

A strategic advancement for fish welfare and flexibility

Njord Kya is chartered on a three-year time charter agreement, with options for an additional four years. The vessel will be integrated into the entire value chain – from smolt deployment to harvest – and strengthens MÃ¥søval’s capacity in line with our growth ambitions. The selection of Njord Kya came after a thorough tender process, where the vessel stood out as the most cost-effective option while meeting our technical requirements for fish welfare, treatment capacity, and flexibility.

The vessel can handle over 400 tonnes of live salmon, and is equipped for continuous combination treatments with freshwater and Thermolicer – without bottlenecks. It is also rigged for gentle vacuum sorting, which is crucial for quality and fish welfare.

A floating workplace

Although the vessel is operated by Njord Aquashipping, it is an important part of MÃ¥søval’s value chain. With 7 employees and 2 apprentices per shift, Njord Kya also represents a floating platform for competence building and professional development in the industry.

Christening with deep roots

Having Marion MÃ¥søval christen the vessel was both symbolic and authentic. She was involved in launching the aquaculture venture – when the pens were right below the living room window at MÃ¥søvalen – and has since been a close and steady companion in the company’s history.

Forward-looking, yet anchored

Today, we combine the solid with the forward-looking. Njord Kya is not just a vessel, but a tool for safe and sustainable growth – and a tribute to those who made it possible.

Thank you to everyone who attended, and to all who work hard – at sea and on land – every single day!
